## Lesson 1 - Fraction Flags

To encourage your child to have fun on the Web while learning about Fraction Flags, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

### Goal

Identify halves, quarters, and thirds of a shape.

### Instructions for Use

What is one Half? identifies halves and quarters of a shape .

To use What is one Half?, have your child watch the video.

Fractions lets your child identify halves of a shape.

To use Fractions, drag one half of a picture to the other to make a whole picture. Click the 'Play' button to start over.

Fraction Flags, Halves and Quarters lets your child identify halves and quarters in a flag.

To use Fraction Flags, Halves and Quarters, select the proportions of the flag by clicking on the up or down buttons. Click the 'Begin' button to start.

At the bottom of the screen are 6 colours. Click on these to change the colour of the paint. Click on the squares in the grid to add colour. When your child has created the flag to the required proportions, click on the 'Finished' button. Click the 'Again' button to create a new flag.

Fraction Flags, Thirds lets your child identify thirds in a flag.

To use Fraction Flags, Thirds, select the proportions of the flag by clicking on the up or down buttons. Click the 'Begin' button to start.

At the bottom of the screen are 6 colours. Click on these to change the colour of the paint. Click on the squares in the grid to add colour. When your child has created the flag to the required proportions, click on the 'Finished' button. Click the 'Again' button to create a new flag.

Fraction Flags prompts your child to compare fractions within flag designs.

In the text boxes, enter the fraction of colour of the flag. Click 'Show Answers' to check the answers, and 'Pick a Flag' to choose a new flag.
