Instructions for Use

Creating Patterns allows students to create and extend patterns.

To use Creating Patterns, click the up or down arrow buttons at the top right to adjust the number of squares to be included in the pattern. To colour a square, click on a square displayed in the rectangle in the upper left, and then click on a colour button.

Click the Step button to add one repetition of the pattern core on the grid.

Click the Play button to repeat the pattern core until the grid is filled in. Click the up or down arrow buttons in the lower right to adjust the speed of the repetitions. Click the pause button to pause the repetition. Click the Stop button to start over with a new pattern.

Pattern Train lets students identify and extend patterns.

To use Pattern Train, have students practice completing patterns of shapes, numbers, or colours. To complete the pattern, drag the blocks onto the train. If a block does not belong where it is dropped, it will return to where it was picked up. Look for patterns either in the numbers, the shapes, or the colours.

Click the "New Problem" button to start a new train.
