Lesson 5 - Flipping and Turning 2-D Shapes

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about flipping and turning 2-D shapes. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

 

Goal

Demonstrate transformations with flips and turns.

 

Instructions for Use

Robo Packer lets students demonstrate transformations with flips, slides, and turns.

To use Robo Packer, click the "Play Game" button. Select each robot and use the controls to move it into position in the suitcase. Students may have to slide, flip or turn the robots to make them fit. Click the "Check" button when all the robots fit exactly into the suitcase.

 

Quilt Maker is an interactive program that allows students to flip and turn shapes like a quilt maker.

To use Quilt Maker, click on the triangles in the workspace. Click the "Rotate" button to flip the shapes. Click the "Reflect" or "Repeat" buttons to extend the pattern in the quilt. Change the colour by clicking on the colour palettes. Click the eraser button to start over. Click the "Index" button to show different patterns.
