Lesson 2 - Measuring Time

To encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Measuring Time, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

 

Goals

Estimate and measure the passage of time using minutes.

Use some standard units for measuring time (minute, hour).

 

Instructions for Use

 

Time for Time lets students practice estimating and measuring the passage of time using minutes, and hours.

To use Time for Time, click on the "show digital" button. Click the "+" button to add 1, 15, 30 minutes, or 1 hour to the clocks. Click the "-" button to subtract 1, 15, 30 minutes, or 1 hour to the clocks. Click the "Current time" button to show the present time. As students click on the hour button, have them watch the sun move over time.

 

What Time is it? prompts students to practice their understanding of telling time.

To use What Time is It?, set the clock's minutes and hours by clicking forward and backward on the buttons at the bottom of the screen. To check what time it is now, click the "Now" button. To check the digital time, click the button with two arrows. Make up your own problems about length of time in minutes. Give your problem to a partner to solve.

 

Clockworks lets students place clock hands to match a given digital time.

To use Clockworks, start by clicking on the desired level. Click on the hour button and then the number on the clock where the hour hand should point to. Click on the minute hand and then to the number on the clock where the  minute hand should point to.
