Lesson 5 - Shake and Spill Fractions

To encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Shake and Spill Fractions, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

 

Goal

Describe fractional parts of a set using models, words, and symbols.

Instructions for Use

 

Flitting with Fractions lets students practice finding fractions that are part of a group.

To use Flitting with Fractions, read the question and determine which butterflies to put in the jar. Drag and drop the butterflies at the top of the jar and click the "Close Lid" button. Have students calculate the denominator and numerator to describe the parts of the group they have caught. Click the "Enter" button and continue until all the questions are complete.

 

Fractions prompts students to describe fractional parts of a set using a model .

To use Fractions, click to make a new fractions bar. Click to increase or decrease the size of the denominator. Choose "f" to represent fractions. Click the sections of the bar to show the fractional value of the sections.
