Lesson 8 - Comparing Capacities

To encourage your child to have fun on the Web while learning about Comparing Capacities, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

Goal

Compare and order containers by capacity.

Instructions for Use

Can you fill it? lets your child estimate the amounts containers can hold.

To use Can you fill it?, click on the pot to fill the containers with water. There is a choice of three different size pots. Using the fewest combinations of pots, fill the container without letting it spill over.

Measuring Cylinder prompts your child to estimate and measure the capacity of virtual liquids by turning the tap on, or turning the drain tap.

To use Measuring Cylinder, click on the red marker to show the level marker in the cylinder. Use the control arrows to move the marker or reset it in the centre of the scale. To change the value of the scale, click the 'Maximum' buttons up or down. To change the scale interval, click the 'Interval' buttons up or down. Click the control panel on the tap to set the amount of liquid to add to the cylinder, or click the tap to add liquid. To release the liquid in the cylinder, click the control panel at the drain tap and set the amount of liquid to drain, or click the drain tap and release the liquid. Click the 'Reset' button to start again.
