Lesson 1 - Investigating 3-D Shapes

To encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Investigating 3-D Shapes, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

 

Goals

Explore and identify 3-D shapes.

Investigate the attributes of 3-D shapes.

 

Instructions for Use

 

What is a 3-D shape? lets students investigate the attributes of 3-D shapes.

To use What is a 3-D shape?, have students click on the 3 dimension tabs to learn about length, width and depth. Click the "Next" button to view the 3-D shapes. Click on the shapes to name them. Click on the rotate button to watch shapes spin.

 

Platonic Solids lets students display, rotate, and resize 3-D shapes.

To use Platonic Solids, click and drag the shape. To colour the faces of the Platonic Solid, click on a colour button, hold the Shift key down on the keyboard, and click on an edge or vertex. Edges are coloured white; vertices are coloured black. To display a new shape, click the "New Shape" button. To change the size of the shape, click and drag the slider up and down. To show the wire frame version, click the transparent check box.
